FIRST AID LEVEL 1

AIM OF THE MODULE:

This programme is an introduction to basic first aid and the learners who successfully complete this module will gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the first aider. They will be able to identify and report hazards and risks in the workplace. Emergency scene management allows the learner to gain an understanding of how incidents should be reported and how the casualty should be monitored while awaiting medical attention. Learners will understand the procedure for alerting an emergency vehicle.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

On completion of this module learners will be able to:

• Assess the emergency situation
• Manage an emergency scene
• Identify the physical condition of casualties
• Administer first aid treatment of casualties
• Identify hazards and risks in the workplace
• Respond to life threatening emergencies
• Report on incident and the treatment provided
• Report the incident to appropriate authorities

Life skills and capacity building training is available for participants who want to integrate successfully into modern society or contribute in a meaningful way to their community.
